This 3-hour LockOut/Tagout Safety Training class at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College is designed for employees, safety officers, and maintenance personnel who work with or around machinery and equipment requiring energy isolation. The course focuses on the essential practices and procedures necessary to disable machinery or equipment, effectively preventing the release of hazardous energy while maintenance and servicing activities are performed.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the importance and legal requirements of LockOut/Tagout procedures according to OSHA standards.
  • Identify different types of energy sources, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal, and others.
  • Learn the steps for applying lockout and tagout devices properly to isolate energy.
  • Recognize the roles and responsibilities of authorized, affected, and other employees in the lockout/tagout process.
  • Develop the skills to create and implement energy control programs, including procedure development, training, and inspection.
  • Practice the removal of lockout/tagout devices safely and the procedures for returning equipment to normal operations.

Course Format:

The training combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises. The course concludes with a written test to assess understanding and proficiency.
